Hike from Cannobio to Monte Carza (with dog)

Scenically very beautiful route from Cannobio to Monte Carza. On the way, there are great views of Lake Maggiore, beautiful old villages and changing landscapes - from woods to meadows and heath and, just before the summit, a beautiful chapel.

The path from Cannobio to Solivo offers some beautiful views of the lake towards Acona and Cannobio itself. In Solivo there are some nice little stone houses which are partly used as holiday lodges. After Viggiona, the path leads farther uphill, always on nice narrow hiking trails until shortly before the summit a small chapel stands where you can take a rest - the view there is also worthwhile! On the summit, the way back leads mostly over narrow, partly steep footpaths back. The route leads almost entirely on nice small hiking paths and is very easy to walk.
Author’s recommendation
Take a rest at the small chapel in front of Monte Carza (there is a bench) and enjoy the view.

Turn-by-turn directions
from Via S. Rocco 14, head towards the center of the town as far as Piazza O Spedale, then turn left into Via Antonio Giovanola, then right into Via G. M. Giovanola. Then turn right into Via Cuserina and immediately left uphill into Casali al Roccolo. At the fork, turn left again and the road turns into a dirt road and later into the footpath that runs along the lake towards Solivo and on to Molineggi. The road continues to Viggiona. In Viggiona, there is a refreshment stop (Ristorante Luna). The way through Viggiona is a bit difficult to find. Via Pietro Ferrari leads to the end of the village where the hiking trail to Monte Carza begins. After the chapel, the path continues to the summit and then straight on to the next crossroads. At this crossroads, turn right downhill towards Prato Rotondo and from there, continue downhill towards Cannobio. There you follow the way back to the parking space.
