The “Ophiolitic path” or “Loop of Cantomoro” is an interesting loop inside the Aveto Park area; it has bookstands describing the main geologic aspects of this area. From the Passo della Spingarda, it's worth the effort to go further up to the panoramic top of Monte Aiona, imposing mountain situated along the main watershed of the Appennino range, between the inland Aveto Valley and the maritime slopes of Sturla Valley. The top of Monte Aiona is a long almost flat ridge, rocky and without trees and shrub.It's a particular landscape due to the rocks here outcrop. It's aspect looks like the moonscape especially when it's foggy (It can suddenly happen, with some orienteering problems).

From Passo dell'incisa (463 m) follow the red-white trail trail marker of “Alta Via dei Monti Liguri”, meet a wide grassy pass (1623m) between the Monte Cantomoro and Monte Nero, then reach Prati (meadows) di Montenero. Meet a thick wood and follow the path up to the Passo della Spingarda (1549 m) To reach the top of Monte Aiona, follow the trail marker and go up the stony south-east slope up to the highest point of Monte Aiona plateau (pyramid of stones). Once will come back at Passo della Spingarda, to finish the loop of “Ophiolitic path”, go down and turn in the left and follow the dirt road (Aveto Valley slope, trail marker: yellow and empty rhomb). At the next crossroad (1382 m), turn in the right (leave the path to Amborzasco), meet the bridge over the stream Rio Dragonale. Follow the dirt road on flat to come back at Passo dell'incisa (turn in the right at the “Falegnameria del bosco” – Carpentry of the Wood).

Parking

from Rezzoaglio go toward Santo Stefano d'Aveto; arrive at Gramizza, turn in the right to Casa Forestale of Monte Penna (It was a buiding of forest service; 1392 m). Close to Casa forestale follow a dirt road south-west direction up to Passo dell'Incisa. from Santo Stefano d'Aveto, from Val Nure or from Val Ceno arrive at Passo del Tomarlo and then reach Passo del Chiodo (follow a toward south road). Turn in the right and follow the road up to Casa Forestale Monte Penna, then turn in the left and follow the dirt road up to Passo dell' Incisa.
