The hike begins at the “Alte Schule (old school)” on Jakob Kneip Strasse.
The local poet Jakob Kneip, born in Morshausen in 1881, is the best-known son of the community. In his texts you can see the love for the landscape of the Hunsrück and its people.
You leave Morshausen at the edge of the village and enjoy views far into the Eifel. The carved wooden figure "Jupp" stands at the beginning of the mine path. The lower part of the path leads to the spoil dump and the entrance to the Theresia ore mine. In the Baybach valley you pass some fish ponds, the historic coal mine of the Theresia ore mine, the Mohrenmühle, the Franzenmühle. Then the path turns to the "Perdskimbel". The path - past "Hampit, der Jäger" and "Haacks Köppsche" - leads to the start of a steep serpentine path. The path leads directly to the rock formation of the Murscher Eselche.
The rock offers impressive views of the Baybach Valley. On the way to Morshausen you hike through the so-called "Hinterwald" and come to three wonderful viewpoints. On a small loop through the village, we admire the lovingly restored half-timbered houses, the Schwengelbrunnen, the St. Lambertus Church and the Backes, which is also home to the Jakob-Kneip-Museum.
The hiking trail was rated 88 points by the German Hiking Institute.
