Distance 20.3 km
Beginning in the centre of Osterode, the Witches Trail follows the Hundsche Weg, an old mining road that brought supplies to the Oberharz mining area. Midway through the day you will reach the World Heritage “Oberharzer Wasserregal” (Upper Harz Water Regale), an intricate system of 110 dams and 550 km of ditches built between the 16th to 19th centuries, which supplied power to the mines of the area. The trail continues to climb past the charming Hubhaus Polsterberg where you can enjoy a welcome drink before reaching the Sperberhaier Dammhaus, where you will be collected for your short transfer to Riefensbeek for your overnight.
