In 1525, in the Church of St Blasii, Martin Luther called for obedience to temporal authorities. Thomas Müntzer was also active here for a few months.

Luther once said: “I know of no other town in the Harz region – or anywhere else – that submitted so quickly to Protestantism than the town of Nordhausen”. In the town there are 11 stations along the Luther Trail. This 21-km-long section leads from Nordhausen in Thuringia to Stolberg in Saxony-Anhalt.

Author’s recommendation

In the centre of Nordhausen is Petersberg Hill. In 2004, the National Horticultural Show was held here, and the area is now used as an inner-city recreation area.

Nordhausen is connected to the Deutsche Bahn regional train network. From Stolberg you can take the number 450 bus (TIMETABLE) to Berga. From here you can take the train again.

Getting there

Coming from the A38, take exit 10 (Nordhausen-West) and continue on the L3080 towards the town centre.

Parking

Please use the parking facilities on Petersberg (LINK) or the carpark at August-Bebel-Platz (LINK).
