Through Hamburg's green oasis - a walk in the city park
Whether it's a short hike or a long walk, summer or winter - on this tour we can relax from the hustle and bustle of the city and take a deep breath. In the varied Stadtpark, we pass sculptures and the Stadtparksee, walk through small forests, wetland biotopes and rose gardens and then enjoy the wonderful view of the Hanseatic city from the planetarium. If you want, you can take a plunge in the cold water or hire a pedal boat and sail around the lake.
On our walk we make the acquaintance of an old "Winterhude", for the huge Stadtpark is quite centrally located in the heart of the ever-popular Hamburg district of Winterhude. The "green lung" is a real people's park and offers something for every taste: kicking or barbecuing on the lawn, sunbathing, beer garden and café, paddling pool and boat hire, open-air baths and planetarium or the special floristic features of a park - from the well-kept rock garden to the ancient wetland biotope. The park, which covers over 150 hectares, was opened in 1914 after a long planning phase and its basic features were designed by Friedrich Sperber, Fritz Schumacher and Otto Linne. The concept of use for all classes of the population and the integration of art has survived to this day. As a people's park, the garden design of Hamburg's Stadtpark was pioneering throughout Germany.
