World Heritage Hike through the Lavaux Vineyards
This is an easy circular hike through the wine terraces of the Lavaux UNESCO World Heritage Site. Throughout the hike you have a magnificent panoramic view of Lake Geneva and the surrounding mountains in France and Switzerland. In fine weather, the view extends over the entire lake and as far as the Rhone Valley in the Valais. On the opposite side of the lake we can see Evian and Hochsavoien.
The outward route runs along winegrowers' roads, where there are many hikers and cyclists, but otherwise only winegrowers with their companions. It is very exciting to watch the winegrowers at work. As early as the 12th century, Cistercian monks built walls here to cultivate terraced vineyards. The way back leads continuously down on a pavement along a road, but always on the lake side of the road with the wonderful view. The entire route is also easy to walk with a pram.
Author’s recommendation
Panorama restaurant "Le Deck" in Chexbres (by Hotel Le Baron Tavernier, at the western end of Chexbres). Snacks and local wine on the fantastic outdoor terrace.
