The "Bracconiere" route will take you to discover several points of interest including the church of San Floriano, the Tana del Lupo until you get to the famous Monte Pizzoc, which reaches an altitude of 1,565 m. From here, you can’t do without admiring the surrounding landscape which, on clear days, stretches to the Venetian lagoon.

Once you have admired this spectacular view, you will resume the route by returning, through the path, to the starting point.

Destination

Forestry House in Cadolten

Turn-by-turn directions

The trail ring begins and ends at the Forestry House in Cadolten. Leaving the structure behind, go down to the right - for a long stretch - on a paved road that gradually opens onto a grassy valley full of pleasant pastures dotted with huts and chalets until you reach the old capital of San Floriano, passing before in front of the Cadolten church. Keeping the right and continuing to go down, at about 50 meters from the Capitello, on your right, take the Sentiero del Bracconiere (path CAI 981) clearly highlighted by the signpost. In a steep climb you reach the ruined huts of Monte Croce (Cros) and, crossing the clearing in a westerly direction, the path continues downhill to reach "Le Mandre", a characteristic place dear to the Fregonese population, dedicated to sheep farming and deforestation in the hard post-war in which the homonymous "casera" still stands, temple and refuge of that era saturated with sweat and hardship. Passing in front of this last one, continue, always westwards, going in front of the fountain that gives its name to the homonymous locality, "Costa Fontana". About ten minutes later, after passing the "Tana del Lupo", another ancient “casera” located on the edge of the grassy area of Agnelezza, continue on path 981 westbound until you cross the Alta Via n°6 (path 980), better known as the "Alta Via dei Silenzi" which, in six days, runs along all the Dolomites offering unique and enchanting views and, going up the ridge to the right, you reach the top of Monte Pizzoc near the cippus of the AVAB. Continuing on the H3 heading east and passing in front of the Città di Vittorio Veneto Refuge, after admiring the view that, on clear days, stretches up to the Venetian lagoon, go up the carriage road until you reach the paved road. You can reach the same point, taking a steep, but short zigzag deviation to the left of the wide square behind the Refuge that leads to the large Cross that stands out over the Piazzale della Pace near the small rock altar on which the significant bas-relief made by a local stonemason dominates. From the square, obtained from the reclamation of the area once a military post, you go down the dirt road until you reach the paved municipal road and, following it downhill, near the first bend, you enter the Berry path (or Sentiero della Pace) eastbound, paying attention to the signs placed on wooden stakes that keep the track not always identifiable on the ground due to the high grass which, especially in the summer season, grows vigorous and abundant. Between lush crags, after a slight descent you reach the clearing of Monte Croce (Cros) originally travelled in the opposite direction and from here continue on the path backwards, first downhill to the east and then uphill to the north, returning to the starting point.

Getting there

Coming from the A27 motorway, take the Vittorio Veneto Sud exit and follow the directions for Cansiglio. Going up the Provincial Road 422, shortly after the Crosetta Pass at 1000 meters above sea level, you cross the paved road on the left that climbs to Monte Pizzoc (Via Monte Pizzoc) from which, after about 2.5 km, you find the crossroads which, taking to the left on a great paved roadway, leads to Cadolten (Via Cadolten).

Parking

At the edge of the woods, near the Forest House, you can park the car.
