Korouoma Hiking Trail crosses whole Korouoma valley and leads tourists through the magnificent scenery of the Korouoma Canyon with its huge cliffs and eskers.
Korouoma is a natural reserve that aims to save and protect kinds of old-growth forests, herbs and cliffs. In diverse nature of Korouoma, flora and fauna with different species change throughout the whole area. Here the scenery is extremely rocky and impressive. Korouoma is an exciting possibility for hiking, fishing, pure nature exploration and enjoying.
Korouoma Hiking Trail is a 25 km trail that goes through hundreds of millions of years old canyon fracture valley. North part of Korouoma is attractively infertile and majestic. Here the trail goes down to the canyon and then follows the River Korojoki. From the middle trail splits into two isolated tracks and upper one goes near amazing Julmakallio Cliffs. Here the valley forms the deepest part of the canyon. On the south of Korouoma trail there is a picturesque landscape with hills, herd-rich forests, sandy ridges, crystal-clear lakes and rivers.
On the way you can find several lean-to shelters, campfire spots, rental cabins and open wilderness huts.
Korouoma natural reserve is located at the border of the municipalities of Posio and Ranua in Finnish Lapland. It can be accessible from Rovaniemi or Kuusamo. From Rovaniemi–Posio highway 81 there are signs directing to Korouoma.
There is a big parking area at Koivuköngäs.
