The church trip can be done by hiking when staying in Salla instead of taking a vehicle. Visiting the centre of the village usually means visiting shops or offices, but it can also mean visiting the beautiful church in the style of a traditional Lappish hut. The hiking trail leaves from Sallatunturi at the shores of Keselmäjärvi lake and passes along the lush Ruuhijoki riverside to the village of Salla. The lean-tos along the route are excellent places to stop and enjoy snacks, or to just rest before arriving at the restaurants and grocery stores in the centre of the village.
To be considered:
- The route is classified as moderate
- The route is marked with low poles with red tops
- Be sure to pay attention to the route intersections; the route can be taken along the Ruuhijoki riverside or along the ski trail
- There are streams along the route where drinking water is available
