Kammweg Section 09 "From Oberwiesenthal to Rittersgrün"
When music inspires. Of course, music is something very subjective. One person hikes with earplugs and can switch off best with heavy metal, the other prefers to enjoy the sounds of nature. The most famous songwriter in the Ore Mountains, as we would call him today, was Anton Günther at the beginning of the 20th century. A border wanderer between Prague and the Ore Mountains, he more than adored his homeland and wrote countless songs. We come across his name several times today.

Many successful winter sports athletes come from Oberwiesenthal, such as Sylke Otto and Jens Weißflog. Past the ski arena, the ridge trail leads through the forest. Again and again we cross the circuit for the roller skiers. Mutual respect ensures accident-free outdoor fun for both sides. Now we come across the Anton Günther Trail. It runs for 57 km through Saxony and the north-west of the Czech Republic. We follow it in parts every now and then. After the first houses of Tellerhäuser, the trail descends into the Pöhlwasser valley to the Wettin Fountain with its refuge and Anton Guenther memorial stone. Here we take a break from hiking. What is your favourite sandwich? Liver sausage, minced pork or egg cream? Our TIP: Always pack a sandwich (Stulle, Schnitte, sandwiches), as there are not always places to stop for refreshments on all stages of the Kammweg. Well fortified, we arrive at Ehrenzipfel. The border to the Czech Republic is very close here - only once across the stream. We march up towards Rittersgrün, which is often described as a picture book village. The Saxon Narrow-Gauge Railway Museum, which railway enthusiasts have created over years of work, is worth seeing.
Milestones: Fichtelberg - wave swing - Sparkasse ski arena - Bächelhütte - NSG Börnerwiese - Tellerhäuser - Wettinplatz with Fuchslochstollen and fountain - Rittersgrün (Zollstraße).

Turn-by-turn directions
Starting from the Fichtelberg summit plateau, the ridge trail leads slowly downhill in a straight line and open on the "Wellenschaukel" trail to the cross-country ski trail gate. At the ski stadium, the entrance to the cross-country ski trail network in winter, athletes and active holidaymakers meet here. Follow the markings into the forest until you reach the Bächelhütte rest area with information boards. From Tellerhäuser Straße, we first take the Börnerweg. This leads us past the Börnerwiese nature reserve, the border crossing for pedestrians, original shelters and the sports field in Tellerhäuser.Between the border and the road, we hike leisurely on the Klingerbachweg along the babbling border stream to the Zweibach group of houses. On the Anton-Günther-Weg to the Ehrenzipfel settlement, the attractive Wettinplatz invites you to take a break. The Wettin Fountain, which commemorates the 800th anniversary of the Saxon dynasty Wettin, the memorial stone to the Erzgebirge singer and local poet Anton Günther, and the mouth of the Fuchsloch gallery bring together the traditions of the area. Visitors can enter the mountain tunnel on request. On the way, song panels invite you to sing a well-known song by Anton Günther. At the Pöhlwasser in Rittersgrün, where the border crossing to the Czech Republic is also located, we cross the Tellerhäuser Straße. Via the Reitsteig we reach the refuge. There we recommend a short rest and a great view of the mountain village of Rittersgrün. A few metres back again, the trail goes downhill on a challenging path (be careful if it is wet!). - Alternatively, use the longer path marked "Alternative Kamm" past the natural swimming pool to the Kammweg junction on the customs road). The end of the stage is reached at the river Pöhlwasser ander Zollstraße. If you don't want to miss the Saxon Narrow-Gauge Railway Museum, take a detour to the disused Rittersgrün station.
