Kammweg Section 05 " From Olbernhau to Kühnhaide"
Alone on a wide open space - nature experiences included. Let's enjoy the solitude today. The ridge trail leads through the forest, past the large Steinbach stream, to Rübenau. Favoured by altitude and climate, the Rübenau mountain meadows are among the richest in species in the Ore Mountains. Staying close to the state border, you reach Kühnhaide. Actually, the place should rather be called KÜHL-haide, as it is one of the coldest inhabited places in Germany.

We leave the Saiger hut and pass the hut pond to Olbernhau-Pföbe. The difference in altitude to the valley floor now increases steadily until we reach the top of the Stößerfelsen. The Stößerfelsen owes its name to the peregrine falcon. In the vernacular, this bird of prey, which pokes its prey in flight, was called a pusher. The XXL bench at the viewing platform invites you to take a break. The trail leads through the evergreen spruce forest to the "Großer Steinbach". Here you can refresh yourself with the clear water of the stream. Uphill, downhill we come to the former Lochmühle mill and to Rübenau. The ridge trail does not lead directly into the village, but turns right up to the Hirschberg with a magnificent view over the largest scattered village in Saxony. The Lehmheider Teich is a beautiful spot, ideal for a rest. Downhill along the stream we reach the houses of Rübenau. Ascending, we come to the Kriegswald forest. Staying close to the state border, we hike towards the Schwarzwassertal valley. A hiking day completely in harmony with nature comes to an end. Milestones: Saigerhütte monument complex - Pföbe - Stösserfelsen viewpoint - Großer Steinbach - Neulsweg - Rübenau - Lehmheider Teich - Rübenau herbal nature trail - Grenzweg forest nature trail - Schwarzwassertal nature reserve hikers' car park.

Turn-by-turn directions
We start this stage at the Saigerhütte monument complex. It leads past the idyllic Hüttenteich pond in the direction of Rothenthal and runs off the road near the border with the Czech Republic. After crossing the road, we walk uphill along the asphalted Pföbe until, at the edge of the forest, the Sedanweg branches off as a forest path towards Rübenau. Above the scenic Natzschung valley, we hike through beech forest. On the way, the "Stößerfelsen" resting place and vantage point invites you to take a break. After branching off onto the Brandleitenweg at the "Kleine Steinbach", after about one kilometre of mixed forest, we come to the unmistakable "Große Steinbach" hiking trail junction. After refreshment at the clear Steinbach and crossing the stone arch bridge, the ridge trail climbs again to the Hammerweg. We leave this at the junction and change to the Neulsweg.Along the babbling brook down the valley, we finally reach the road to the former Lochmühle on the border river Natzschung. Along the old millrace, the Neulsweg rises again to Rübenau, the largest scattered settlement in Saxony. Up the Hirschberg, across the field, we reach the forest road. Through high forest we soon arrive at the picturesque Lehmheider Teich. Here, in good weather, the hiker involuntarily takes a break before the path branches off again to Rübenau. The trail leads past farmsteads and typical Ore Mountain houses, past species-rich mountain meadows and along the medicinal herb trail and through alleyways. The view of the village and the Bohemian Ore Mountains leaves a lasting impression. From Heidenweg, the ridge trail curves along a field path to Kriegwald forest to avoid endless asphalt roads. It then takes the Grenzweg to Kühnhaide, the coldest place in Saxony. The challenging day tour ends at the hikers' car park of the Schwarze Pockau, which is also known as the Schwarzwassertal nature reserve.
