Kammweg Section 02 "From Holzhau to Sayda"

Sayda, Alte Kreuztanne

Starting in the upper village of Holzhau at the hikers' car park or at the Fischerbaude, the Kammweg trail leads a short distance along Ringelstraße to the junction with the former Alte Landstraße. The forest and meadow path, mainly along the edge of the forest, offers the hiker a fantastic view of Holzhau with its mountain meadows and the idyllic Mulde valley. Gradually downhill, after crossing under the railway bridge past Rechenberg railway station, we reach the centre of Rechenberg-Bienenmühle on the Alte Straße. A special experience as a stopover promises a guided tour of the Saxon Brewery Museum followed by a tasting. Beer has been brewed in Rechenberg since 1558 and was known far beyond the state's borders. The raftsman's house in the historic town centre is also worth a visit. It has been lovingly furnished and provides an insight into the hard life of the rafting families and the castle ruins in the village. Hikers can relax their tired feet by taking a detour to the "Ökobad" (eco-bath), which can be reached in a few minutes via the Muldentalstraße. Ökobad because the bath is cleaned in a natural way with various plants, bacteria, zooplankton, rush clarification and watercourse. In addition, in the centre of the village, a herb path and a nature trail, which runs through the Trostgrund nature reserve with a Kneipp water treading pool, invite visitors to linger.The Kammweg now runs uphill towards "Goldene Höhe" until it branches off onto the Saydaer Weg. After crossing Neuhausener Straße, we reach Mittelweg with a magnificent view of Rechenberg-Bienenmühle and its districts. In Clausnitz we reach a beautiful meadow path towards the village. This later leads back onto the village road. After crossing it, we continue uphill along the Martinsweg with a view of the picturesque landscape to the "Rachel". This stream was used as a raft ditch for centuries until the railway line was built to transport timber.We recommend a rest at the historic Rachel bridge and refuge. Then continue uphill across meadows along the edge of the forest to the old post road in the direction of Sayda. The stage is completed at the romantically situated Hotel Kreuztanne.Those who are still able to walk well can visit the agricultural and mill museum in nearby Friedebach or one of the last pipe drillers. This is the only place in Europe where water power is used to drill water pipes out of logs (demonstration by appointment, tel. 036365 7308).
