The hiking trail "In the valley of the wild Endert" was chosen to be Germany's most beautiful hiking trail in 2019. Follow the small river Endert from Ulmen in the Vulkaneifel to Cochem, where it flows into the Moselle.
The starting point of the day tour is the village of Ulmen. You have an impressive view of the Maar in Ulmen from the ruins of the Ulmen castle. Let's enjoy the wonderful panorama of the crater lake that was created about 10,000 years ago. After the ascent to the "Antoniuscross", we now follow the river Endert on rocky paths and gorge-like slate rocks. A highlight is near the Maria Martental pilgrimage church: the "Rausch" waterfall plunges 7m into the depth. The church is only a short detour away from our route. We continue to enjoy the silence of the valley. Many of the over thirty mills have been refurbished and converted into residential houses. The managed "Göbels Mühle" invites you to a hearty snack. After a refreshment you follow the valley past the medieval Winneburg until we reach our destination Cochem. A visit to the Imperial Castle is a cultural highlight of our tour.
Highlights on the way:
Castle ruins Ulmen
Maria Martental Monastery
Numerous old mills
