A relaxed hike in the city? Yes, that's possible!

The aim of this tour is not only to live CO2-neutral, but even CO2-positive.

Our starting point is Garching near Munich, followed by the Garchinger Obstgarten, where you can pick apples for your own consumption.

In the Bürgerpark next to it, the younger hikers also have some time to enjoy at a climbing playground.

After that, we continue to the actual hiking trail along the Isar. If you need space to relax - you will find it there!

If you are almost at the end of your tour, you can buy various groceries from the Zehetmair Hof organic shop, both from their own and from neighbors' cultivation.

This is followed by the open bookcase in Unterfoehring. There you can place a book as well as take one out.

On the way towards Oberfoehring you can see some nice playgrounds. Every child should go home happy at the end of the tour!

Have fun on your hike towards CO2-positivity!

Turn-by-turn directions

Our tour starts at the Garching subway station, which you can easily reach with the U6 subway. From the exit you walk along the Muellgasse street and in 700m you turn left. In 210m you will reach Garchinger Obstgarten, which is to the left of the path. You walk along the orchard and in about 200m you will find the bridge in the Buergerpark on the left-hand side. You cross the bridge and on the right side you can see the climbing playground at Hueterweg 22, 85748 Garching.

After that you go back to the orchard by taking the same path. When you leave the Garchingen orchard, turn left and walk straight ahead on the natural path for about 400m. Then turn right and walk another 800m. You will then come to a section of the trail that is near B471, 85748 Garching bei München, but do not fear - it only takes 800m. This section of the trail is far enough away from the highway and offers opportunities for walking and cycling. Next, just go straight ahead until you cross the Isar Bridge and then turn left immediately. Then you walk on the Isarweg in the direction of Ismaning and Munich-Mitte (please note the information signs on the way!). In 600m you come off the path to the right in the direction of Unterfoehringer See and Munich-Mitte.

This is followed by the actual hiking trail along the Isar with a duration of 4.9 km. There you just go straight ahead until you reach a crossroad and you have two options to choose from. You either continue to walk along the path and come to the stairs in 500m (which are on the left side of the path) or choose the path with fewer stairs, which is on the left side of the crossing and lies along the middle Isar canal. Both paths lead to the small bridge over the middle Isar canal and connect the Isarweg with Unterfoehring. It is important to note that there are stairs on both sides of the bridge and are not as suitable for single people with strollers. However, if at least two people do this trail together, they could easily carry it up and down the stairs.

After the bridge there is Kanalstrasse, where you should turn right and in 100m take the left path and then just walk straight ahead. In 200m you will see the Zehetmair-Hof "Bio-Shop". The store is on the left side of the path and is marked with a sign.

After you come out of the store, cross the Münchner Strasse and walk another 400m on the right side of the Bahnhofstrasse. Then turn right onto Föhringer Allee and in less than 100m you will come off the path to the left. Then walk another 100m on Bahnäckerallee until you see the adult education center music school on the left. If you turn left directly, you will reach the open bookcase Unterfoehring in a few meters.

Then turn immediately right and continue straight ahead on the street "Am Bahnhof". You walk a few meters on the "Firkenweg" and turn left in 200m. After 100m you take the right path - "Hofäckeralle" and in approx. 400m you will reach "Münchner Straße", where you turn left.

After taking the left path, walk straight ahead for 800m and then turn right into "Leinthalerstraße". Here you cross the Leinthaler Bridge and turn right at the end. Then you take the right path again under the bridge. In 700m you will reach the next bridge - "St. Emmeram".

After you cross this, you walk a few meters to the playground at the St. Emmeram Bridge. In about 100m you go over the next bridge over the Middle Isar Canal. Then go straight ahead to "Spervogelstraße", where you turn left and immediately take the right path. This is how you reach the last playground on "St. Emmeram" street.

200m after the playground, turn right onto "Oberföhringer Straße". If you cross the street you will reach the end point - tram stop St. Emmeram.

Have a safe trip home!
