Day 1a: Bus: Bregenz to Lingenau
Day 1b: Lingenau to Staufner Haus
Day 2: Staufner Haus to Gunzesried (Gasthof Goldenes Kreuz)
Day 3: Gunzesried to Maderhalm (Berghotel Maderhalm)
Day 4: Maderhalm to Kemptner Hütte
Day 5: Kemptner Hütte to Memminger Hütte
Day 6a: Memminger Hütte to Zams
Day 6b: Cablecar: Zams to Venet Gipfelhütte
Day 7a: Venet Gipfelhütte to Wenns
Day 7b: Bus: Wenns to Mittelberg
Day 7c: Mittelberg to Braunschweiger Hütte
Day 8a: Braunschweiger Hütte to Rettenbachferner
Day 8b: Bus: Rettenbachferner to Tiefenbachferner
Day 8c: Tiefenbachferner to Martin-Busch Hütte
Day 9a: Martin-Busch Hütte to Vernagt
Day 9b: Bus: Vernagt to Merano
Notes: Accommodation in refuges and B&Bs. Advance booking in July and August necessary. Day 5 is extreme: 23.5km with 1350m evelvation gain. Do not underestimate. Shuttle Taxi service available between Holzgau to Madau.
Difficulty: Challenging to Arduous
Know your Limits: You must be in good physical shape and be prepared to make the daily distance in 7-10h. Be prepared to walk 6-9 hours a day.
Hike Smart: Make sure your backpack has a weight-bearing hip belt and is comfortable to carry. Limit yourself to the essentials; fully loaded, your backpack should weigh no more than 7kg (base weight, i.e., excluding water and snacks). Use hiking poles.
