11 Erkrath to Hilden
Noticeable ascent at the start. Great views, streams, woods and lots of lakes.
In Erkrath, the path follows the River Düssel, then crosses the railway tracks and heads slightly uphill through a wonderful wood to the first highlight of the stage: a view of the Rhineland as far as Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom).
Later we pass through the Eller Forest (Eller Forst) to the Unterbacher See (Lake) with its varied leisure and recreational activities.
We cross the motorway and can grab some refreshment at the unusual milk filling station.
The “maritime” impressions continue, as we visit two more lakes - the Elbsee and the Menzelsee.
A short while later, after passing through the Hasseler Forest, we reach our destination in Hilden-Hülsen. A beautiful section of the path that includes three lakes.
