Turn-by-turn directions

This wonderful trail starts at the “Zum Eichholz” Wanderportal (hikers’ portal) in Feudingen, and ascends to the slope of the Mackelshelle hill. Here, you can enjoy the first view onto the historic town of Feudingen. The route continues gently upwards through an upland fir tree forest to the Hohe Ley hill, where there is an impressive panoramic view onto the broad Lahntal valley. After an open high plateau with views into the Wittgensteiner Berge region, the path takes you down into the romantic, unspoilt Ilsetal valley. The route, which later turns into a winding path, takes you along a steep bank next to the gushing bed of the Ilse stream until it flows into the Weidelbach stream. Follow this stream upwards to the right to the Weidelbacher Weiher lake. The heavenly peace by the lake with its beautiful waterlilies during the summer is a good place to take a long rest. Then walk over to the Lahntal valley, via the shelter hut and “Bettelmannsbuche” (“beggar’s beech”) picnic area, where pilgrims and waggoners used to camp. On the sloping bank of the young river Lahn, you continue towards Volkholz. In Dernbach, the wood opens out, offering broad views into the natural Lahntal valley. It’s worth taking a rest on a long bench to enjoy them before ending this beautiful walk in Feudingen.
