Easily accessible from town this ridge top and vale figure of eight offers opportunities to cut short or extend. Look out for the Pixie home!
Distance 6.1 km
Plenty of parking on the left hand side of the road, leaving Sherborne.
Walk up Checcombe lane until and farm and mast are visible on the right hand side. A large lake sometimes floods this section so take care surounding it and head right, this leads down to a triangular junction with beautiful shelter.
Trend to the left at Oatcroft lane, heading along to Tuckers Cross. Turn right here.
Peer through the bushes on the left for you are very close to the head of a tremendous valley, views to Yeovil.
The path bends gradually to the left until a concrete pole is met, turn right and follow to the bottom of the escarpment, this can be wet in winter.
Continue along the track trending the bottom of the escarpment and gradually climbing. After a left hand bend the double path drops to a stream and the gate on the right climbs up Shelners. Pass the water supply for Trent before emerging close to the Pixie home.
Trending leftwards this will bring you back to the crossroads beside the triangulation pillar. Left will return you to the car but if you want more then head straight across.
Trent Path Lane lays ahead, a gentle descent into Sherborne but we are turning left part way down. This diversion will cross the Marston Road before dropping by the kennels and picking up the Coomebe road. A pleasant amble up through Coombe Farm emerges on Charlock Hill opposite to the parking place.
