Trek to Annapurna Base Camp starting from Nayapul and ending at Siwai.
Started with a 2 hour ride from Pokhara to the starting point Nayapul. From Nayapul we begin trekking and various permit registrations verified before starting the hike. It's possible to take a public bus or 4wd vehicle up to Ghandruk. We opted for a light Hike that's mostly flat till we reach the stairs to climb up to Ghandruk near Kimche. Reaching Ghandruk, it was a little challenging searching for our teahouse but it has one of the best views at that hill.
From Ghandruk the hike has ascends and descends which are steep. We took a longer route which was scenic and the climb was manageable. Reaching Lower Sinuwa which is also known as Bhanuwa was challenging but manageable. We had a first taste of gas hot shower here and it was amazing! Climate was good and views were amazing here with Himalayan hills slopping down the valleys, mahnificent!
From Lower Sinuwa it was uphill steps and steep ascends and a few descends that you'll know later every meter you drop, you'll have to climb back up. Strong physical gotta keep you going here. Passed Bamboo, Do an, and Himalaya Hotel to reach Deurali with good time for enough rest for next day's hike to Base camp. This point on, it'll be too cold to bath even with gas hot shower.
From Deurali it's a gradual climb, not steep but the air is getting thin and cold that challenges your physique. You'll pass the Fish Tail with magnificent views all around. Reaching ABC early would grant you great views with clear skies. Clouds began to form late afternoon and blocks most of the views. We walked a bit around and higher a little to see a flat plain land after the memorial monuments.
Early morning at ABC waiting for the sunrise grants hikers with surreal views of the Annapurna I. We've spent a good hour here as we take in the beautiful Annapurna range before heading back for breakfast. Began our descend as soon as all ready to go. Great views back and front all the way of the Annapurna range and the Fish Tail. Skipped Bamboo as we arrived early with enough juice to scale the unforgiving stairs up and down to Sinuwa. Makes one staircase lesser for the next day.
From Sinuwa it's challenging steep climbs and descends towards Jhinu. Climbing down steep hills are not easy feit here as it takes it toll on your knees. YouKll be able to see Jhinu but it's still faraway down. Arrived with enough time, rest of team visited the hot spring while I rested at Jhinu.
From Jhinu it's a good hike down with a few short ascends. Decision made to cut the trip short one day and head down to Pokhara from Siwai. That'll give us time to explore Pokhara. On the way to Siwai, it's noticeable to see land slides and rock fall in many areas requiring attention to safety if you're caught in one.
It's a jeep ride down from Siwai to Pokhara. It's amazing how the tyres can take the sharp rocks on the road and roll on without puncture.
All in all, was a great hike with medium difficulty. Be sure to catch up on your fitness before attempting the hike to ABC.
