Värikallion kaarros trail takes you to the most famous sight in Hossa. Thanks to the walking platform, you will be able to explore the historical Värikallio rock paintings at a distance of only a few metres.
Värikallion kaarros trail takes you back in time to admire the rock paintings and old forests along the old Sámi hunting grounds of Hossa.
Värikallio rock paintings date back to the Stone Age and they are estimated to be at least 4,000 years old. There are more than 60 identifiable figures in the set of paintings, which deals with the fishing and hunting culture and worldview of Stone Age people.
8 km circle trail is quite easy to walk, and even has parts accessible to all (200 m Lihapyörre trail from the starting point to Lihapyörre lean-to shelter, following a beautiful river and esker scenery).

By car from Kuusamo to Hossa Visitor Centre:
Follow main road 5 ( E63) for 73 km to the south from Kuusamo. At the village of Peranka turn onto road 9190 and drive east for 25 km. Then turn north on road 843 and drive past the village of Hossa. It is an 8 km drive along road 843 to Hossa Visitor Centre's intersection. From this intersection it is 700 m to the visitor centre.
From Visitor Centre, continue Jatkonsalmentie road onwards for 3 km, and then turn right to Pistonlehdontie. Drive 6,2 km and then turn right again. After 1,6 km you will reach the parking area.
Free, spacious parking area at the end of unpaved road.
