Alternative trail from Karmir Shuka to Avetaranots village with a minor palace ruins. Take this if it has rained a lot or if you want to avoid a lot of river crossings.
Overview: Starting in the busy town of Karmir Shuka (Red Market), head up to the Avetaranots (Chanakhchi) turnoff, and head west. You'll pass a nice little waterfall and during mulberry season, a little mulberry vodka (tuti oghi) distillery.
You end up in the village of Avetaranots, with a historic Melik's house (or "palace") an old bridge, and other sites. Tips: * Watch for leeches if you swim under the waterfall.
* You'll have to cross a stream or two where you may get your feet wet. Have water shoes, or else you'll need to go barefoot or get your shoes wet.
