Cycling route Tržič - Slaparska vas - Medvodje - Tržič
A mountain tour for adventurers who enjoy the views and quiet corners of Slovenian forests.
Tržič–Slap–Lom pod Storžičem–Slaparska vas–Medvodje–Jelendol–Dovžanova soteska–Tržič
The mountain bike tour starts in front of the Tourist Promotion and Information Centre (TPIC) Tržič, where you can soak up all the information about offers along the way. Cross the bridge over Tržiška Bistrica and turn left in the direction of the Dovžan Gorge. After 1 km of gentle ascent, turn right at Slap in the direction of Lom pod Storžičem. Make your first short stop at the church of St. Catherine, from where you can already sense the length of the glacially transformed valley. Continue along the main road through the village, the road becomes steeper again and levels out for a good kilometre when you reach Grahovše. Drive past the parking lot and just before Slaparska vas turn left onto the dirt road that leads to the mountain hut Dom pod Storžičem. Turn left again, pass the football field and ascend above the valley. A magnificent view of the northern slopes of Kriška gora, Tolsti vrh and the ridge of Storžič (2,132m) mountains open up, while Konjščica and Bela peč rise above the trail. The gravel road leads us past the turnoff for the Rekar farm to the Pavšel farm, where we pass the barrier and continue for some 2.5km below Bela Peč mountain on a forest road with a gentle ascent. Past Gaberčev rovt, the road is steeper again, but it climbs nicely in ridges to the Pr'Zdravc hut, where it is worth stopping for another look towards Storžič, as our path then turns north. Keep to the same road the whole time and after nearly a kilometre you can turn right in the direction of Javornik. But then return along the same route and go down a small valley towards the mountain pasture Vetrh, where you turn right and after 500m left onto a forest road, along which you carefully descend to the Tržiška Bistrica valley. In between there are some shorter, steeper descents on usually worse ground, so extra caution is advised. Once in the valley, turn left and continue to the hamlet Jelendol and switch back to asphalt. In Jelendol, you can leave your bike and walk to the Born family tomb or continue to Dolina, where you can visit the Dolina Exhibition and Education Centre (check opening hours beforehand). Through the Dovžan Gorge, with a stop at a waterfall and a geological column or an info point (in summer), return to the starting point, where you can continue exploring the small town below Karavanke on foot or by bicycle.
