Cycling route Tržič - planina Preval - Begunje na Gorenjskem - Tržič
A nice, scenic tour around Mt. Dobrča for well-prepared explorers.
Tržič–Podljubelj–planina Preval–planina Planinica–Begunje na Gorenjskem–Brezje pri Tržiču–Tržič
A real mountain bike tour awaits, which circles Mt. Dobrča and climbs the sunny southern slope of Mt. Begunjščica. From the Tourist Promotion and Information Centre (TPIC) Tržič, cross the bridge over Tržiška Bistrica and turn right. Do stop at the sculpture of a dragon hatched from a rooster's egg, who, according to a legend, is responsible for the creation of Tržič, as you will complete the first part of the route right through the valley where people fled from the dragon below Košuta. From the dragon, head over the bridge and through the old town in the direction of Ljubelj. Pay attention to the turnoff for the Tržič Museum, which you can visit on the way back. You will immediately start climbing above the town and soon see the southern slope of Begunjščica in the distance, which you will reach in about an hour and a half. Ride along the road towards Podljubelj and observe large rock blocks along the way, the remains of a large landslide, for which, according to the legend, the previously mentioned dragon was responsible. Continue through Podljubelj. In the meantime, you will notice a road leading to Kofce and a little further on an overpass over the regional road, across which you can, on another occasion, visit the waterfall Tominčev slap or spend the night in the camp. Continue along the regional road past the hamlet of Črni gozd, and then turn left at hamlet Lajb over the overpass, as directed by the blue signs of the Trans Karavanke mountain bike trail. Along the forest road, past the area of the St. Anne mercury mine (former cinnabar - mercury ore mine), climb steeply towards the Preval mountain pasture. Just beneath the top, pay attention to an unmarked sharp turn to the right onto a rough road that leads you to the pasture. The Preval mountain pasture is very well visited during the hiking season, access routes are from Ljubelj (the popular route through the Born tunnels) or from the Draga valley. Here the views are breath-taking, reaching all the way to the distant Julian Alps. The residing dairy farm is best known for its cottage cheese dumplings (štruklji) covered with 100g of melted chocolate, which should also be the reason for a stop. However, don’t eat too much, you still have about a kilometre of steep ascent on a rough trail ahead. From the highest point at 1,425m, carefully descend to the Planinica mountain pasture and further into the Draga valley. This section of the road is very busy in the summer, so be extra careful when going down. At the Draga guest house, cross onto an asphalt road, descend to the ruins of Kamen Castle and to the intersection, where you carefully turn left towards Tržič. Prepare for a panoramic ride along the so-called balcony of Gorenjska. Although you have to pay attention to driving on the main road, from time to time do indulge in views over the Ljubljana basin and towards the Jelovica plateau. Descend to Tržič along the main road past Brezje pri Tržiču and Bistrica pri Tržiču
