Along the trail, you'll be able to enjoy the magnificent Rykimäkuru Gorge, the charming Pyhälampi day trip hut, the beautiful scenery at Lampivaara and the ease of downhill sections.
Rykimäkero ski track will take you into fell country, providing you with a wide variety of skiing experiences. Changes in elevation along the track will get your blood pumping nicely, but you'll be able to enjoy some lovely downhill sections through snowy old-growth forests. At Lampivaara, the track reaches its highest point, where you'll be treated to a spectacular view of the surrounding landscape as you climb out of the forest. There is a ski café at Lampivaara, where you can also purchase tickets for a guided tour of the neighbouring amethyst mine. The track winds its way through old-growth forests, passing over fell slopes in some sections and along riverbanks in others. The finest view is from the edge of the Rykimäkuru Gorge, where you can see as far as the Pyhätunturi range. Charming rest stops farther out in the wilderness are located around the halfway point. These are the Pyhälampi day trip hut and lean-to as well as the Rykimäkuru lean-to a bit farther out. In addition to these, there is a lean-to next to the café at Lampivaara and a traditional Lapp kota hut at Rykimäkero. Next to little, steep-sloped Rykimäkero at the end of the track, you can see how people stored their food in the old days - right next to the Rykimäkero Lapp hut you'll find a traditional log storehouse and raised food cache.
The direction of travel on the circle track is counterclockwise, i.e. starting from the Rykimäkero parking area, head toward Lampivaara. If you ski the track in a clockwise direction, the downhill sections are steeper and one section at the end of the track has a sharp, hairpin bend. Bring along plenty of food and drink, warm clothes, a first aid kit, map and mobile phone. For more information, visit the Hiking in Finland section: https://www.nationalparks.fi/hikinginfinland
