Two-hour city walk along the vibrant streets of the Schwabing hippie era to the English Garden.
Schwabing is known today as the home of Munich's posh society. But on this city walk you will get to know the different sides of Schwabing. Immerse yourself in the era of flower power and the riots of 62 and discover, in contrast, the flora and fauna of the English Garden, Munich's green core. Take a relaxing stroll along what used to be Schwabing's most famous discos and bars, where Freddie Mercury, Jimi Hendrix or Uschi Obermeier used to hang out. On the other side, meadows and woods, the Kleinhesseloher lake with its countless rowing boats, as well as the icy clear Schwabing creek await you and for the grand finale you can stop by the beer garden of the Chinese Tower.
You start your tour at Munich's famous monument to the Siegestor. From there you walk 350m northeast along Leopold Straße until you reach Leopold Straße 28a on your right, the former, venerable Città 2000, which today houses the Italian restaurant chain "L'Osteria" and the burger shop "Peter Pane". Then follow the road for another 350m, past the "Walking Man" and change sides. This will take you to Leopold Straße 25, where the notorious "Big Apple" club was located, now the "Mintclub". The tour continues by following the road for another 400m and changing sides of the street so that you are on the right side of Leopold Straße. You will pass many restaurants and bars until you see the Carhartt WIP store and turn right into Feilitzstraße. Follow this street for about 200m until you reach McDonald's and you are at Wedekindplatz, the centre and hotspot of the wild Schwabing times. Here you will find bars worth mentioning on your right, such as the Drugstore, in which Hepp&Ettlich is also located, as well as Schwabinger 7, which is further down Feilitzstraße. Next you go back up Feilitzstraße to Leopoldstraße until you find yourself in front of the big bus station, which reminds you of a mushroom, cross the street, follow the street Leopoldstraße to number 69, the former "Tiffany" - the home of Jimmy Hendrix and his friends, where you can find the "Macchiato-Café" today. Keep north, change sides of the street when you have the chance and walk 800m straight ahead. Turn right at Johann-Fichte-Straße until you reach Tantris at Johann-Fichte-Straße 7, a 3-star restaurant where celebrities still hang out today. The tour continues to Andaz Schwabing, in memory of the torn down Schwabylon, which was located at Leopolstraße 202a. From Tantris, keep south 25m along Johann-Fichte-Straße and turn right into Berliner Straße. After 400m turn left and within a few meters you will see the hotel in front of you at Leopoldstraße 170.
From here you make your way to Schwabinger See. Keep going east towards Berlinerstraße. Cross the street and turn right. After 42m you are at the Schwabinger See.
Turn right and go around the lake until you are in front of the "Soundcafe". Go past it and finally the Ungererbad is on your right at Traubestraße 3. Go past it and follow the street Traubenstraße for 170m until you reach a crossing at the corner of Ungererstraße. Cross the street straight ahead into Luxemburger Straße. Stay on this street for 230m until you reach the Biedersteiner Straße. Turn right and stay south for 500m towards Gundelindenstraße. Then you are in front of a big crossroads which you cross straight ahead, keep left and walk past the playground and straight through the park to Liebergsellstraße. Turn left and follow the road 88m until you reach the corner of the "Schwabinger Osterwaldgarten". In the bend you will see a turn-off to the right towards the Schwabinger Bach, which you take. Then turn right, go straight for 25m and finally turn left again. Then you can already see the Kleinhesseloher See in front of you. Keep to the right, along the lake until you reach the fork and take the right-hand path, which will take you 180m. Finally you go straight so that you are parallel to the Schwabinger Bach, turn left and go straight for 450m until you are in front of the bus station "Chinesischer Turm". Cross the street and you will see the beer garden and your destination for today.
