Sie wird neben Barcelona oft nicht wahrgenommen – höchstens als Standort des Flughafens Girona-Costa Brava. Der mittelalterliche Stadtkern und die Überreste der römischen Festung Força Vella sind auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Aufgrund ihrer Lage wird Girona auch „Vier-Flüsse-Stadt“ genannt – sie liegt am Zusammenfluss von Riu Onyar und Riu Ter, in die ihrerseits Güell und Galligants münden. Von den zahlreichen Brücken, die sich über den Riu Onyar im Stadtzentrum spannen, hat man einen schönen Blick auf bunte Wohnhäuschen, die Kathedrale von Girona und die hoch aufragenden Wachtürme.
