Experience the unique forests and beautiful sandy shores of Oulanka National Park and the quietly flowing stream of river Oulankajoki on this 25 km paddling tour.
This beautiful tour along river Oulankajoki starts from below Kiutaköngäs rapids and follows the river 25 kilometres to Jäkälämutka pool of quiet waters.
In this tour there are no rapids, only few short streches where the water stream is a slightly more powerful. Most of the time in this journey the water flows calmly. Depending on season, the water level of the river may vary, so in some places you might need to pay attention to the shallow waters.
Paddling this tour there is a good chance to see reindeers resting on the sandy beaches or majestic eagles flying above. The river meanders in a valley surrounded by lush forests and high sand banks. There are also many places to beach and have a break, such as Ansakämppä open wilderness hut, the lean-to shelters in the Sirkkapuro and Alaniemi areas and the campfire sites in the Kiutaköngäs and Nurmisaarenniemi areas.
- Suitable for beginners and families with children.
- Route can be travelled with canoe, kayak or SUP-board.
