Enjoya a relaxed canoeing through rivers and lakes in the middle of the beautiful Finnish lakeland.
The Squirrel Route (Oravareitti in Finnish) is a 57 kilometers long canoeing route which runs between Juva and Sulkava. The route is at its best in May and early June or at the end of the summer when the water level is high. You can paddle the route in 2-3 days.
Suitable for families in particular, the easy Oravareitti starts at Juva Camping and goes over Lake Jukajärvi towards the small stretches of river and easy rapids. The Squirrel Route is also the first biologically studied Finnish aquatic nature trail marked with information boards. Along the route there are 21 checkpoints that are visible to the canoe by hand and describing the natural area.
There are several places to rest and spend the night and travellers have a choice between spending the night outdoors amidst nature or comfortably indoors under a solid roof.
You can reach Juva by car or bus.
