Swaledale North 23 miles

Route 2 - Swaledale North 23 miles 2 – 3 hours

Turn L out of the George & Dragon heading towards Richmond. Turn L after 1½ miles past the Holly Hill Inn then down the hill and over Green Bridge. Go straight on at the Green and up the steep hill into Richmond Market Place. Straight across to the roundabout, straight on here and at the next roundabout to the traffic lights where you turn L (2¼). Up the hill and bear L after Garden village and continue past the old racecourse on your L and the golf course on your R. Down over Aske Beck then up past Aske Moor before a steep descent and another climb up to Whashton Green (5½). Straight on at the junction (to the Feldom Ranges) then bear L towards Kirby Hill (6¼). Follow this country road as it goes through Gayles (7½), keeping L for Dalton (8¼) where you turn R then L before bearing L to Newsham (9½). Turn L and L again and follow this minor road uphill onto the moors until you reach the crossroads on Holgate Moor (14). Turn L then down to the hairpin bend over Rake Beck before climbing back onto the range at Cordilleras (16½). Straight on then steeply down to Marske (18½). Straight on at the junction then L at the junction below Marske Hall until you reach the bridge over the River Swale (19½). Turn R along the A6108 for 250 yds then bear L and uphill to Downholme village (20¼). Turn L past the Bolton Arms then bear L along the edge of the army ranges and continue uphill to a superb viewpoint on Downholme Moor. Continue straight on across the range and finish with a quick descent back to the G&D (23 miles).
