Ride from Guildford to Portsmouth via Haslemere and Petersfield. Mostly quiet roads or cycle routes, but a few sections of road.
Sections where there are other road or alternatives to NCN 22 - you have a choice. NCN22 will be longer, quieter and prettier in places, but there are some forest trails which will be muddy when wet, so possibly follow the blue alternative routes (View it in OpenCycleMaps to see.)
CAUTION after Liphook - it's hard to see on the map, but DO NOT head onto the bypass slip road. There is a left turn just before which takes you onto a parallel road alongside bypass (marked "A3"), then a section of cycle lane next to the A3 for a bit. It's not amazing but usable. Alternative is to divert through Liphook and onto route 22 again.
A few hills but nothing too major. It's an up-and down route with some quite pleasing descents.
Take provisions / water and food as there's long stretches where there isn't really much before Haslemere. Pretty church and green to stop in Haslemere, there's also a Tesco but try not to get lost finding the way back on route from Tesco.
Petersfield is nice town to stop, it's also a last opportunity to bail out onto a train if you've had enough - the train line heads southeast from here and Havant is quite a long way off-route.
Portsmouth cycle provision is not great - mostly shared use/footpath nonsense in to the town alongside busy roads. It's okay but tedious.
