A short cycle tour through the western tip communities
On our tour by bike we cycle through the fields, forests and villages of Selfkant, the most westerly municipality in Germany. The Selfkant, which was placed under Dutch administration in the 1950s as a territorial claim for the compensation of war damage and was only reincorporated into the Federal Republic of Germany on 1 August 1963, is a very rural area. Far away from big cities, we mainly cycle along well asphalted field and forest roads. We have the opportunity to make a short detour across the German-Dutch border and enjoy an insider tip of the Selfkänter: Frites from Op de Boom in Koningsbosch. The reputation of this small Dutch fritter shop extends far beyond the borders of Selfkant and creates a lot of hustle and bustle at weekends. To enjoy the calories of the Selfkant, you have to go to Op de Boom in Koningsbosch. To work off the calories, we drive to the Tüdderner Fenn. On the way back we also cycle through the Höngener and Saeffelener Bruch and reach the Breberener
