Touring Cycle Route through the 'Old Testament

Sundern

The route starts at the town hall in Sundern. At the bus stop, turn right and follow Mescheder Strasse in the direction of Westenfeld. As soon as you have left the housing estate of Sundern, you can continue to follow the cycle path to Westenfeld on the left-hand side. From the entrance to Westenfeld, follow the L686 partly along the road and partly along existing cycle paths that run parallel to the road until you have passed the Schützenhalle and the church. Now turn left at the Alpaca Farm into Bainghauser Weg and then after about 100m turn right into Weist. Now you pass the kindergarten and drive through a beautiful valley with wonderful meadows and a small stream. At the end of the valley you are directly in front of the country road (bypass road - be careful!) Cross this road and follow the road towards Hellefeld past the riding school. Again, you have to cross a busy road (be careful!) and cycle into the village centre of Hellefeld. There is a good place to rest here at the Gasthof zur Post. Directly next to the Gasthof zur Post, turn right into Kehlstrasse and cycle along it until you reach the country road L839 at the hikers' car park (Unterm Kehlberg). Now follow the road to the left (there is a cycle path behind the crash barrier) until you reach the beautiful village of Altenhellefeld. At the first crossroads, keep straight on and turn right at the first road into Lange Stra&szlig. After 200m, turn left into ‚Dünnefeldweg’, cross the Landstra;e (be careful!) and  slant towards the road ‚Zum Dünnefeld’. Cycle along this road to the end and you will reach the open field. Directly opposite is a gravel path through the meadows. Follow this path and enjoy beautiful views of the mountain „Hardt“ and „Sauberg“ on your right. In Linnepe you reach Linneper Stra&szlig, turn left, pass the Gasthof „Zur Mühle“ (rest stop) and now turn right  into Kreisstraße 7 towards Wenighausen. Here you have the opportunity to stop at Gasthof Tebbe. In Weninghausen cycle straight on up the hill for about 200m until the road forks. Take the path on the right and follow it. After an ascent, there is a long descent with fantastic views and you reach the small town of Recklinghausen on Recklinghauser Strasse. Turn right towards Sundern and follow the road until you reach the Severin company. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit and continue straight ahead. If you would like to take a break at the Hof Cafe, take the 3rd exit at the roundabout. To reach the starting point of the cycle tour, turn right before the traffic lights (Ewiger Weg) and after approx. 350m turn left again into Selscheder Weg until you reach the fork. Here follow the left-hand exit into the main road, which will take you to the town centre. Now go through the pedestrian zone and turn right across Levi – Klein - Platz, through the underpass and you are back at the starting point.
