Turn-by-turn directions
The tour begins in Hof near Salzburg. You enter Lebachstraße in a southerly direction, keep half-right at the next junction and ride slowly uphill towards the forest on the Holzspurweg with a view of Elsenwang. After only a few hundred metres, the highest point is reached and nothing stands in the way of an enjoyable long descent. You pass through the small village of Gäng and continue along the winding road to Vorderschroffenau and on to Ebenau.
From here, follow the signs to the "Strubklammroute" to the centre of the village, where a short detour to the impressive Schwarzbachklamm is recommended. This leads through the middle of the village and can be reached either via a small bridge or an underground tunnel.
You leave Ebenau on the signposted route, drive a short distance downhill along the road and follow the turnoff to the Felbertal country school home on the left. Metre by metre, the trail climbs steeply uphill through dense pine forest until, directly behind the Landschulheim, the first rock formations reveal the beginning of the Strubklamm gorge. The last metres of the climb lead through a tunnel. On the right side of the road there is enough space to deservedly park the bikes, take a deep breath and let your gaze wander through the rugged gorge.
The road now follows the Almbach stream and slowly leads out of the gorge past the Strubklamm Seewirt inn. Follow the signs in the direction of Hintersee. First, however, you should take the time to refresh yourself in the natural bathing pools of the rugged stream bed in the impressive Felsenbad Faistenau.
The route then continues along many bends until just before the shore of Hintersee. This place is also tempting for a swim before the tour continues via Anger towards Faistenau, always following the signs. In Faistenau, the trail leads directly past the parish church of St. James. A special feature of the Faistenau church is the old ossuary, the Karner, where the exhumed bones are kept to make room in the cemetery. A short descent leads to Hintersee's main road, where the last climb of the tour begins. From the village of Wald, the descent is enjoyable until you reach the Baderluck roundabout. Here you keep to the left and soon return to the starting point in Hof.
