Cittago Route starts at the city centre and leads to the city museum Carlsro. There you will see how a wealthy merchant family spent their summers in the middle of the 19th century (read more about Carlsro on visitkristinestad.fi).
After Carlsro, you may visit Gallery Gottorp which boasts annually renewing exhibitions held in robust log cabins from the 1700s. You can also explore permanent exhibitions portraying both town life and witch-hunt in 17th century Kristiinankaupunki.
Now begins the second part of the tour which takes you through villas in Antila. In the fishing village of Leppäsalmi, you can take a dip in the sea or admire the beautiful sunsets from the best spot in the city! The route takes you now back to the city centre via Kristinestads Gymnasium (the Swedish-speaking upper secondary school) which is located on the highest hill of the city.
The Ulrika Eleonora church is an excellent destination to finish the tour.
Author’s recommendation
If you fancy a walk, the route can be toured on foot and takes approximately 2–3 hours.
Right at the beginning of the tour is the Maritime Museum of Kristiinankaupunki. There you will be acquainted with the life at sea and the places where the sailors, captains and vessels of Kristiinankaupunki sailed in the bygone centuries.
In summer, you can take a break in the café of the Carlsro Museum. Another great place to rest is the swim dock in the fishing village of Leppäsalmi.
