Jump on the bike and embark on an excursion to the history of Kokkola National City Park! Suntinsuu cultural cycling route from the center of Kokkola to the sea.
On the Suntinsuu cultural cycling route, you can get to know the past of the Kokkola National City Park from the saddle of a bicycle. On the route you will find a tar market telling the history of the tar trade and tar storage locations. You will find out where the pitch bulb was located, where the pitch was further processed from tar. You will get to know the historical figures who influenced the area and Kokkola's early defense system. You will see how far from the beach the beach villas have stayed due to land uplift and you will understand how much the landscape has changed over time.
For each object on the map, you will find a QR code, which you can open with your mobile phone's camera or with a separate downloadable program.

You can rent a bike from Pyöräliike Lybäck in the center of Kokkola, Neristan, from where it is good to start on the route.

Turn-by-turn directions
Cycle from the Kauppatori square to the opposite side of the Sunti strait. Stay on the cycle path in the park area and cycle along the Sunti strait towards the sea.
After the Pohjoisväylä (Finnish national road 749) pedestrian underpass, continue past the Suntinsuu boathouses towards Mustasaari and Soldatskär.
Then, return to the bridge via the same route and cycle over it to the Pikiruukki side. Stay on the cycle path and cycle towards the Vanhansatamanlahti beach and then towards the Sannanranta area.
The route ends at the Harrbåda ramparts, from where you can return to the city centre via the cycle path.
