In April I started biking from Amsterdam to Rome, using a combination of guidebooks ˝Reitsma's route naar Rome˝ and ˝Onbegrensd fietsen naar Rome˝ from Paul Benjaminse. These two books also have many alternative routes in Italy, that's how I made my way to Venice. From Venice I wanted to ride the Croatian coast, but the weather was not too, so somewhere in Istria I decided to go land inwards. Up to Ljubljana, Maribor and Vienna. From there on I followed the Danube (with a little detour to the Balaton Lake in Hungary) to the Black Sea. For the route back home I again used a guidebook, ˝The Limes Route˝ that follows the Northern border of the Roman Empire from Constanza (Romania) all the way to Katwijk aan Zee (NL).
