The route starts at Sarreguemines train station. The town of Sarreguemines is located at the point where the Blies river flows into the Saar and is famous for its ceramics industry.
We recommend a visit to the casino, which enjoys an idyllic location on the banks of the Saar.
The journey takes you along a designated cycle path (shared with the Saarland Cycle Route) into the Saarland, passing through a large number of small towns and villages, most of which take their name from the river Blies. The route is nice and flat here.
The first highlight: The European Archaeological Park at Bliesbruck-Reinheim is open daily from mid-March until October and provides a wealth of interesting information about the history of the region.
You pedal through the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve until you reach Gersheim, which has a protected orchid plantation .Continuing along the idyllic Blies, you soon reach your overnight destination of Blieskastel.
The city is part of the Saar-Palatinate Baroque Route and is a Kneipp spa resort. You will love the picturesque old town with its fountains, courtyards and half-timbered buildings. The most significant buildings are the Orangery, Schlosskirche church and Holy Cross Chapel, which is over 300 years old.

Some parts of the trail offer very little shade in summer. There are lots of rest stops along the way, but we recommend taking plenty of drinks with you.
