Saar-Mosel-Main long-distance cycle route (D-Route 5)
The Saar-Moselle-Main long-distance cycle route or D-Route 5 runs from Saarbrücken along the Saar, Moselle, Rhine and Main rivers to the Czech border.
Over almost 1000 km, cyclists cross Germany's regions of pleasure on the D-Route 5. From the wine regions on the Saar, Moselle and Rhine, you come further east to Fränkisches Bierland. Wine tastings and visits to breweries are a must here. Since most of the route runs along riverbanks, you can cycle in a relaxed manner without having to deal with major differences in altitude. From the wonderful Saar-Lor-Lux region, you cycle through the Rhenish Slate Mountains to the impressive Mettlach Saar Loop. This is followed by the picturesque Moselle region with its numerous bends and loops, mountains and vineyards. From the more leisurely Rhine to the winding Main and finally through the Fichtelgebirge mountains to the Czech border. Along the way, there are not only pleasurable experiences, but also castles, towns and other highlights worth seeing.
