The romantic circular tour leads 184 kilometres through the rivers of Franconian Switzerland, over the Pegnitz and the Red Main to the Fichtel Mountains. Numerous gorges and castles line the way. With more than 1800 metres of altitude, there are some challenges to be mastered, but the romantic gorges and the unique landscape compensate us for the effort.

We start our cycle tour in the festival city of Bayreuth. From the Bayreuth Festival, the route leads along the Red Main and the Mistelbach to Donndorf to the magnificent Fantaisie Palace with its large palace garden. The route takes us along a former railway line to Plankenfels. The castle of the same name is situated on a rocky hillside and is privately owned. Now we cycle steeply uphill until we finally reach Ebermannstadt on the hills of the Fränkische Schweiz. We pass Pretzfeld Castle and Hagenbach Castle in the Trubach Valley and reach Egloffstein. To reach the smallest town in Franconia, Betzenstein, it is uphill again. We ride through the Veldensteiner Forst until we reach Pegnitz.
