Cycling Helsinki West Region tour

This captivating cycling route starts in Helsinki. After cycling along the seashore of Espoo your first stop is in Kirkkonummi. From Kirkkonummi you have a great opportunity to visit Porkkala seafront and enjoy the beautiful nature and archipelago. Take the opportunity to swim in natural waters either in the sea or in small lakes along the cycling route. On your way to Ingå you cycle both eastern and western King’s Road and cross the historical bridge that connects them. After visiting Ingå by the sea you cycle along the King’s Road to Fagervik and then to the ruins of Raseborg Castle and enjoy the beautiful countryside with fields and forests. On your way to Ekenäs you see where the local food is produced. You can also visit fascinating archipelago on your way to Ekenäs. Ekenäs is worth visiting with its historical town center, cafes and restaurants offering delicious local and organic dishes. Nearby there is a large nature preservation area showing you the most beautiful Finnish nature. Enjoy the light summer nights in beautiful nature. If you would like to visit Finlands’ southernmost town, make your way to Hanko. The cycling route takes you along the southern side of Cape Hankoniemi all the way to the other end of Hankoniemi. The cycling route takes you through the amazing bird watching areas, silent, thick pine woods while sea waves are hitting the great rocks on the sea shore. Hanko is beautiful summer city with its charming wooden villas and it has been a holiday resort for Finnish people for a long time.

Turning back towards Helsinki, the cycling route follows the chain of old iron works villages. The roads hug the coast and an idyllic pastoral landscape opens up. The Mustionjoki and Fiskarsinjoki rivers run into the Pohjanpitäjä Bay which is a shallow fjord-like bay and quite unique in nature. The bay was important for trade already at the time of the King’s Road.  The area is one of the birth sites of the Finnish metal industry.  You cycle to Fiskars and Billnäs villages and to the town of Karis. Some of the buildings in the village are from the 1700s. The area offers cultural landscapes of Southern Finland. Svartå Manor is the biggest non-ecclesiastical wooden building in Finland. It was completed in the late 1700s and it is still one of the country’s most highly valued manor houses. The cycling route continues to Siuntio known as manor parish and back to Kirkkonummi and then crosses the northern Espoo and Vantaa cities following the old King’s Road to east.
