A relaxed ride through vineyards and forests to reach the little town of Villandry, which hosts the magnificent gardens of Chateau Villandry.
Ride along quiet farm roads through vineyards and forests before arriving in Villandry. Chateau Villandry is the highlight of the village and the gardens alone make it worth a visit. After a wander you might like to grab a refreshing drink or ice cream, and cycle back to Azay le Rideau for a late lunch. The return cycle hugs the River Cher, until it’s confluence with the Loire, and then turns away from the river towards Azay le Rideau through more vineyards.
On reaching Chateau Villandry we recommend allowing some time to explore the gardens; take a walk around the flower beds, hedges, rose gardens, woods, maze, and water gardens.
Today’s ride is along quiet country roads and cycle paths with few main road crossings. Take when you’re leaving Azay le Rideau, and arriving in Villandry, to avoid cycling up one way streets. Be careful to stay in the cycle lane at the large roundabout leaving Azay le Rideau also.
All normal cycle equipment and outdoor gear is required. In particular cycle gloves, waterproof jacket, a warm layer, bottle of water, and food for the day. A helmet and padded cycle shorts are highly recommended along with suncream.
Food & Drink
Today's ride is shorter than the rest so there's no need to take lunch with you. Howvwer some snacks are reccommended, and if you spend a long time at the Chateau Villandry there are cafes and restaurants in Villandry itself for refreshments or a spot of lunch, hopefully in the sunshine.
