Road cycling routes in Japan

This route enjoys the flow of the Oirase mountain stream, which runs 14 km in length from the Yakeyama area to Lake Towada. From National Route 102, the route runs gently downhill along the mountain stream. In spring and summer, the route winds through green trees with a refreshing breeze, and in autumn it runs through a tunnel of brilliantly coloured autumn leaves.

This exhilarating course takes you from the castle town of Kikuchi, which flourished for about 500 years, to the Niju Pass, a stone-paved road on the Bungo Highway that still remains today, and the Kikuchi Valley, one of Kumamoto's most popular summer retreats, along the Milk Road and Kikuchi-Aso Skyline, which promises a spectacular view.

This course circles the island of Yaikiri, with its magnificent pastures where sheep graze peacefully and one of the largest onko (yew) fields in Japan. The ups and downs to Hawk's Nest Park are a little tough, but the road along the north coast is a light ride.

走りごたえのある100kmルート。長崎市中心部にある「水辺の森公園」をスタート。2011年に開通した全長876ｍの伊王島大橋をわたり、島を一周。リゾートで観光客も多く訪れるスポットである。その後、野母崎半島を海沿いに南下していくが、天気が避けれれば「端島（通称：軍艦島）」を眺めることができる。オオウナギが生息している樺島にも訪れてほしい。後半は、10%を超える坂と、ノコギリ歯のような連続したアップダウンが続く野母崎半島東部を北上していく。

約120kmほどのコースで、極端な勾配はなくに平坦基調のサイクリング。序盤に諫早湾の堤防上を約7km走行する。その後は有明海を左に見ながら島原半島を時計回りに一周してもどってくる。島原鉄道を走行する電車と並走することもあるでしょう。島原半島南部からは天草灘、橘湾を眺めながら温泉で有名な雲仙市小浜に入っていく。このあたりから廃線になった旧小浜鉄道のトンネルをそのまま一般道として利用する県道201号線を走行する。是非天気のいいときに走っていただきたい。異なる海を眺めるライドになるでしょう。
