Grotte di Frasassi
Piazza Cavour in Ancona
The only Region in the plural of Italy. Symbol of an incredibly varied and fragmented territory but also wonderfully orderly: from the Apennine chain of the Sibillini Mountains there are lush valleys that host among the rolling hills villages and ancient hamlets among the most beautiful in Italy. Urbino and Montefeltro, the ancient Via Salaria and the Piceno, the Riviera delle Palme, the port of Ancona and Monte Conero are just some of the destinations to discover in the Marche.
Discover the region
The Marche region is located in central Italy on the Adriatic Sea. Abruzzo, Umbria and Emilia Romagna respectively define the main borders to south, west and north, while Lazio and Tuscany border the Marche only minimally with relatively small stripes of land to south and west. The region is mostly mountainous, becoming hilly towards the coastal area of the Adriatic Sea. Bathed by blue waters on the Sinigallia seafront, the region is also rich in natural parks and protected areas of the Umbrian-Marchigiano Apennines, where ski resorts and mountain trails through woods and clearings offer a wide choice for visitors and explorers of all kinds. The naturalistic beauty of the area is enriched by a cultural heritage that preserves history and traditions through unique buildings, fortresses and historical centers. The carnivals of Fano, Urbino with its unique UNESCO historic center, the fortified citadel of Gradara, the monuments of Ascoli and Ancona, the caves of Frasassi and many other places make the Marche a region to be truly discovered. To all this overlaps a gastronomic offer with typical products of the land, suggesting a strong bound between traditions and territory.
