Lake Plateliai is located in the Žemaitija National Park and is surrounded by an impressive forest landscape.
This lake is the largest and also deepest lake in Samogitia. At about 50 m is the deepest point. It offers a number of recreational activities, such as diving or kayaking in transparent kayaks. In addition, there is a cycling route which leads 24 km around the lake.
Plateliai is known for its underwater archaeological finds, including 16th century bridge poles that once connected "Castle Island" to the mainland. The "Castle Island" is one of the seven islands that stretch across the lake.
