Ruppertsklamm Gorge
The Ruppertsklamm has been a designated nature reserve since 1936 and is part of both the premium hiking trail Rheinsteig and the quality hiking trail Lahnwanderweg.
The 1.5km long wild and romantic Ruppertsklamm is an adventure of a special kind within these hiking trails. A large wooden arch marks its entrance. The path leads over small bridges, wooden footbridges and adventurous passages, past several waterfalls to the refuge, which invites you to linger.
* Notes: The hike to the refuge takes about 45 minutes, elevation gain 235m. Sturdy shoes are absolutely recommended! On the B260 in the direction of Bad Ems there is a parking possibility on the left side. The Felsenschlucht is a section of the premium hiking trail "Rheinsteig" (Blue "R") and the quality hiking trail "Lahnwanderweg", also Lahnhöhenweg (L). At the end of the gorge is a refuge. From here, a wide hiking trail leads back in the direction of "Allerheiligenberg", past the lookout point "Uhuley" with a fabulous panoramic view of the Lahn valley.
The nature lover and railroad telegraphist Theodor Zais made the inaccessible parts passable with bridges, stairs and ropes from 1910 to 1912. A plaque set in rock in the middle of the gorge commemorates the man who opened up the gorge. Since 1936, the 11.6 hectares with stream course and gorge forest have been a nature reserve.
