The Temple Mount is as Mount Moriah, where Abraham offered Isaac. Jewish tradition calls the rock of that offering the Foundation Stone of the world. Over it now rises the 1300-year-old Dome of the Rock, Islam's third holiest site.

Here Solomon built the First Temple some 3,000 years ago and Herod turned the Second Temple into the most beautiful building in the world, extending its courts to where the Al-Aqsa Mosque now stands. As you wander the Temple Mount today, admiring its shrines, its easy to imagine it thronged with pilgrims as in days long ago.
