The “Öcher Bösch” (in the local dialect) is a unique recreation area and experience park for both local residents and tourists. Every day, many different types of users come here – hikers, equestrians, joggers, Nordic walkers, mountain bikers, dog-walkers, fans of flora and fauna, school groups, and many more – for a break from the busy city life and to learn and have fun in the forest.
It’s no wonder that 72% of Aachen’s woods have been designated “recreational forest”. On peak days, the area attracts five to ten thousand visitors. Maintaining the forest as a freely accessible recreation area and experience park for all is a major priority of the local forestry service.
