Pilgrim walks in Germany

This pilgrimage trail connects the former Cistercian monasteries of Loccum in Lower Saxony and Volkenroda in Thuringia over a distance of almost 260 km. Through a varied natural landscape, the trail passes numerous monasteries and ruins.

The Speyer-Metz Way of St. James takes us from the ancient Roman city of Speyer through the Rhine plain to the German Wine Route and into the Palatinate Forest. After crossing this, we reach the Hornbach monastery, the Saarland and on to the French Lorraine, where our destination is Metz.

Pilgrimage is probably as old as mankind and is experiencing an ever greater boom. In Germany, too, there are connecting routes to the famous Way of St. James, such as the Brandenburg Way of St. James.

The Wuppertal-Aachen Way of St. James leads pilgrims from the Wuppertal district of Beyenburg via Cologne to the German-Belgian border near Aachen.

On the Bonn-Trier-Schengen Way of St. James, we go on pilgrimage from the Rhine over the Eifel to the German-Luxembourg-French border triangle in Schengen.

The Way of St. James Rhine-Meuse leads us from Millingen on the Rhine in the Netherlands through the German-Dutch border region to Aachen.

The southern variant of the Way of St. James Saarland-Lorraine leads us from Homburg-Kirrberg through the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve to the Hornbach Monastery and on into French Lorraine, where the destination of our pilgrimage is Metz.
