In 1236, Abbot Albert of Stade travelled to Pope Gregory IX. in order to effect a monastery reform at his Benedictine monastery of the Virgin Mary in Stade. In his "Annales Stadenses", he documents the most important ecclesiastical and political events of his time.
The wide Tannheimer Tal between steep rock teeth and mountain ridges forms the Tyrolean final stage. At Oberjoch the German part begins with a spectacular descent to Bad Hindelang, one of the most attractive spa and holiday communities in the Allgäu.
The spiritual attunement on the way takes place in the famous Cistercian monastery Stams with its art treasures as well as in the pilgrimage place Maria Locherboden above Mötz. Far from the main roads, the route leads through an enchanting landscape with many chapels.
On this 84 kilometer long pilgrimage you explore the whole region of the Kufsteinerland. In the foreground are various Marian monuments that invite you to linger and come to rest. The stage length can be chosen according to your physical condition.
Beginning with the european culture the believers began to go on pilgrimages. Every year thousands of pilgrims start off to walk a passage of the Way of St. James (Jakobsweg), to pilgrim, to reflect and regain energy.
